Before the event, ÇOMÜ Rector Prof. Dr. R. Cüneyt Erenoğlu highlighted, "Plogging is a new trend, originally emerging in Switzerland. It's a sport that combines environmental awareness, green transformation, and sustainability. Many countries have established plogging federations. We are hosting this event for the first time in Çanakkale to raise awareness about environmental consciousness and to encourage the youth, especially university students, to take the lead in such initiatives as part of university-city collaborations. We believe this event, organized by the Sports Union, ÇOMÜ Corporate Communications, and ÇOMÜ Zero Waste, resonates with the city." He also thanked Dr. Dilvin İpek, the Green Transformation Coordinator, for her contributions to the event's success.
The event featured a celebrity team, including Tekin Uğurlu, athlete Derya Can, athlete Ayşegül Ay, athlete Ümit Burunlular, and artist Abdülkadir Katra Rahim Sibai, who competed against other teams in the plogging tournament.
Following the opening remarks, the "Running for Zero Waste" themed Plogging Championship began on Sarıçay Street. Teams collected litter during their walking and running exercises.
The event concluded with a medal ceremony for the winners and a group photo session.
